Our National Lollipop Day favourites

A woman holding lollipops at a market stall

Did you know there’s a national lollipop day on the 20th July? It seems like they’ve invented a day for everything! There’s been a lot Tamworth exciting this week for the Athelstan 1100 celebrations and even better, we were kicking off the celebrations by spreading the love of lollipops with our market stall giving them out for FREE! We always think sweets taste better when they haven’t burned a hole in your wallet.

In honour of national lollipop day and and Athelstan 1100, here’s our favourite flavours.

Traffic light

If you’ve never had a traffic light lolly before, what would you imagine makes it special? Hint: it isn’t red all over! This colour-changing marvel usually turns the undecided to the very excited when you tell them it isn’t just the gentle fruit taste you’ve got to look forward to, it’s a beautiful wash of reds, yellows and greens as you eat.

Tutti Frutti

Tutti Frutti wins because of its beautiful ability to pair well with pretty much everything. Due to its colourful stripes it’s often referred to affectionately as “the rainbow one”. Whilst you’ll probably encounter the word ‘fruit flavoured’ several times throughout our blog, this one has an extra burst of sugar. We’ve got quite a few kali flavours (or ‘sherbet’ or ‘crystals’ if we’re using the less traditional names) and tutti frutti fits with the sweet and sour equally.

Bubblegum and Candyfloss

Now it might be odd to have two different lollies in the same spot, but we’ve noticed bubblegum and candyfloss lollies becoming an unplanned duo. As the two most ‘candy-like’ flavours we’ve got, they’re often bought together rather than just the one leaving the jar. Particularly when siblings are involved, arguments melt away as soon as you show ‘em these two.

Blue Raspberry

Blue raspberry tops the list of our favourite flavours, because it’s managed to be one of the treats that keeps people coming back! It’s one all ages can agree on. When it comes to bubblegum blue vs raspberry blue, raspberry remains in the lead. There’s no gimmicks or brand name needed for this flavour – it’s earned the top spot for the simple reason everyone likes it.

What are your favourite flavours? Did we miss your favourites? Make sure to Visit Tamworth and catch the grand celebrations for Athelstan 1100!
