Some countries get all the sun. I do feel like if we weren’t such a cloudy nation our personalities would brighten up to match, but it’s very British to grumble about it so I’ll stop. If you haven’t gone somewhere like Majorca yet (or the tropical paradise of Skegness) here’s our favourite treats to ruin that perfect beach body as quickly as possible.
Candy Cones
Stupid fact about me: I can eat an ice cream perfectly fine in normal life but if I eat it whilst on holiday I’ll make a mess. Beach? Dropped it. Poolside? Got distracted and accidentally missed my mouth. Candy cones never give me any trouble. The vanilla and strawberry chocolate is the perfect size to nibble on one by one, and it doesn’t melt like your average choccy bar either.
Beach mix
It doesn’t take a master of gummy sweets to see some familiar features in these, but nobody could ever mistake beach mix for any old Haribo. Beach mix, like many gummies, take fruit flavours as their inspiration, but with a richer taste. This delightful technicolour treat is particularly popular with families due to their size making them more appropriate to share with little ones over three years old. They’re also tantalising because they come in the shape of buckets, spades, parasols, ice creams and of course beach balls.
Lemon sherbets
Now this one might feel like a curveball; we assure you we’re serious. In both the winter and summer months sherbets do one important thing- making that dry throat a little more saliva-y. Not the most appetising image, I grant you, but perfect for all weathers. The citrus taste also will fit right into whatever sunny day it’s needed.
There’s another unavoidable aspect of lemon sherbets: they are incredibly British. I am actually somewhat surprised they’ve not been made part of a football chant yet. Despite the fact lemon may not be a native fruit, we wouldn’t be a proper English sweetshop without them. Because sometimes you have to go elsewhere to realise what you miss about home!
