Why you should get a sweet jar for Valentine’s day

They say it’s not the gift, but the thought that matters. Obviously as a shop, we have to make sure we get the gift right or we’re not doing our job. And we believe there’s no better gift than sweeties.

It’s thoughtful

When I first re-opened, I bought all manner of pinks and reds and chocolate boxes for valentines, but found that people didn’t care about them. People wanted to specifically get sweets they knew were their partner’s favourite. I was sort of expecting to get a few last-minute stragglers who had only a faint idea of what the missus might like – but I was proven wrong. When you put something together for your partner like a bespoke sweet jar, it says to them ‘Hey, I noticed this was your favourite’. It’ll sweep them off their feet!

It can be reused

Whether the jar is glass or plastic, it can be better for the environment when you don’t have a whole new bit of packaging each time. Even if you’re not particularly bothered about cutting down on your household waste, you can keep the jar and refill it again and again. If you make a little ritual out of it it doesn’t just say ‘Have some sweets’, you can score extra points with an act of ‘‘I was thinking of you, and our daily life’.

You can hopefully steal some for yourself

Ok, now for the selfish bit. The best things in life may be free, but the second-best things in life are shared. This is going to work even better if you live together. There is a chance, of course, that they’ll be so happy to receive sweets that they’ll start eating right away and offer you one.

It’s also a win-win. If you say you like the same sweets they do it’ll prove you have excellent taste, and if you like the ones they don’t it’ll be a good reason to keep you around- so you can hoover up the ones they don’t.

If you are single or don’t have anyone to give a jar to

Get yourself some sweets. As if we don’t have to put up with the gooey little lovebirds other times of the year.

If you can’t be bothered to read an entire blog about it, here’s our TikTok here!
